Growth assumes the same return each year and contributions at the start of each model year, not capped to available contribution room. No future limit increases, withdrawals, fees or losses are simulated. Read the model boundaries.
TFSA balance by year
Model years from now, not calendar years. “Added” is cumulative future contributions.

How your TFSA room is calculated
Your room this year is the year's dollar limit, plus any room you have not used from earlier years, plus what you withdrew last year, minus what you have already contributed this year. It is one total across all your TFSAs.
Room starts building in the year you turn 18 if you live in Canada, and new residents start in the year they arrive. No room was given before 2009, when the TFSA began. The yearly limit is indexed to inflation and rounded to the nearest $500.
For example, CRA's Joe turned 18 in 2024 and contributed $7,000 that year and $2,000 in 2025, so in 2026 he has $12,000 of room: $7,000 for 2026 plus the $5,000 he did not use in 2025.

Residency and records
The selected residency year is a starting point, not a full residency history. The calculator assumes eligible Canadian residency continues through 2026. It cannot exclude later non-resident years or determine your current tax residency. Include ordinary contributions across all your TFSAs; do not count qualifying direct transfers as new contributions.
Withdrawals are not instant room
Enter ordinary withdrawals from years before 2026. Do not include withdrawals made in 2026: they return as room on January 1, 2027. A gain or loss in the account does not by itself change contribution room. Special exempt contributions and specified distributions are not modelled.
Room is not a growth forecast
Growth uses a fixed yearly contribution and return; it does not check future contribution room or forecast future annual limits. With CAD 10,000 now, CAD 7,000 added at the start of each year and 6% return, the model gives CAD 18,020 after year 1 and CAD 26,521 after year 2, before fees. These are scenario assumptions, not guaranteed returns.
Use your financial institution records across all accounts. CRA account figures do not reflect transactions immediately. For an actual excess still in the account, CRA explains removal and reporting; this calculator does not calculate monthly excess or non-resident tax.

TFSA or RRSP?
A TFSA gives no deduction when you contribute, but growth and withdrawals are generally tax-free, and withdrawals do not affect OAS or GIS. An RRSP gives a deduction now (up to 18% of last year's earned income, to $33,810 for 2026), but withdrawals are taxed as income.
